The Family Cafe 2020

Since 1998, The Annual Family Cafe has brought together thousands of individuals with disabilities and their family members for three days of information, training and networking each June. With a great range of individual breakout sessions, a packed Exhibit Hall with dozens of vendors, and a series of special events including Keynote speakers and The Governors’ Summit on Disabilities, The Annual Family Café offers families exposure to a wide range of public and private resources, opportunities to find support by networking with other families, and unprecedented access to policy-making officials.

I had the pleasure of presenting a breakout session live at the Family Cafe in 2018 entitled Family Fun with Math. This conference is a life changing experience, especially if you have any connection to persons with disabilities and/or special education.

This year, due to the pandemic, this amazing conference has gone virtual. Live and recorded sessions can be viewed on their Facebook page for FREE. The live sessions continued through June 19th. The agenda of live sessions can be viewed here.

In addition to the live sessions on Facebook, other breakout sessions have recordings and resources available in the Family Cafe Program. This year my breakout session on Growth Mindset for Parents was accepted. The full description for my recorded session can be found on page 39 of the program. It reads:

Parenting for Potential: Using Praise to Foster a Growth Mindset
When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Learn how simple changes in the way you praise your child can make them into more successful students and people.

You can view the full recording of the session here and find accompanying resources below.

The Family Cafe also did a version of my presentation with an American Sign Language interpreter! You can view that version below.
